Making Way for Miracles

We all love Miracles.

Who doesn’t love a good Miracle?

The internet loves Miracles, the news outlets, when a Miracle makes the cover of People Magazine, now you know it’s a true Miracle if it makes the cover of PEOPLE! There’s the Miracle on the Hudson, Miracle (The US Olympic Team), Pocket Full of Miracles, Miracle on 34th Street, The Miracle, The Miracle Worker, The Miracle Mile, and countless more. Any movie with the word MIRACLE in it gets our attention. Doesn’t it? I know it gets mine. The word MIRACLE is a good headline. It sells.

So, that’s not a bad thing, right?

Because when it comes down to it, it doesn’t matter if it sells movie tickets, magazines, subscriptions, or ads on the internet, if the word MIRACLE gets people to look twice at something that’s not a bad thing!

Several months ago, I saw an amazing movie. I actually saw it multiple times. Miracles from Heaven, starring Jennifer Gardner. This is a true story about young Anna Beam, suffering from a rare digestive disorder who is miraculously cured after surviving a terrible accident. The story is based on a book written by Anna’s mother, Christy Beam. If you haven’t seen the movie, please do. It’s a beautiful movie about true faith. Buy it, rent it, just see it.

Jennifer Gardner plays Christy Beam. Not to give any of the movie away, there is a point near the end of the movie in which Jennifer’s character speaks to her town in church.

See there was a time during her daughter’s ordeal that Christy lost her faith. She refused to see the Miracles around her, even the small miracles.

So, that’s easy enough. This blog could very well be about seeing the Miracles in everyday life. In the people God brings to us, their friendships, kindness, love, sacrifices, their faith.

This blog could be about being grateful and finding gratitude in every situation.

This blog could be a reminder to be aware of Miracles around us every day.

But it’s not. Well it is, but it’s not.

This blog is about getting out of our own way, and MAKING WAY FOR MIRACLES.

See, when we get scared, frustrated, or we feel life kicks us in the ass, we put up walls. Its okay, it’s in our nature to protect ourselves. We feel we have to retreat and be mad at someone. Be pissed at each other, the situation, ourselves, the Universe, or even God. Yep, He’s the big one. Be pissed at Him, shut Him out. Close yourself off, shut the door, lock it, and don’t let anyone in. That’s okay, sometimes we need to do that. You may hear a tiny knock at the door. “Knock knock, it’s me, a Miracle.” You can pretend you don’t hear the knock, it wasn’t loud enough, or perhaps you want a bigger Miracle. A louder knock. You want a dang burning bush!!!

We tie ourselves in knots, and can’t move. We don’t know how to even begin untying the knot. The knot is just too damn tight, we become paralyzed in this knot we have created.

Then the phone rings. “Hello, answer the phone, Miracle calling!”

Again, we refuse to answer the phone, as perhaps we don’t think the call is for us? Or perhaps we don’t feel worthy of that call?

Yes, Miracles are around us every day, everywhere in everyone we meet. Yes, it’s up to us to see the positive in every person God brings to us, in every situation we find ourselves in.

But sometimes we are the ones who get in the way of the Miracles. We get in our own way.

It’s time to get out of the way, and make way for the Miracles to come pouring in.

It’s like a stream, and we place ourselves, like a big ole bumpy rock, in the middle of the beautiful, natural flow of the crisp, clear, sparkling waters.

It’s time we get out of the way and allow God and His team of angels to work their everyday Miracles without us locking the door on them. Take a deep breath, reset and open the door.

It’s time to Make Way for Miracles.

Be aware of the Miracles, be grateful for them, but most of all, let them flow in, clear, loving, sparkling gifts from God.

Feel each miracle as it touches you, washes over you, as it inspires you.

When we get out of our own way, we experience love the way God loves us, when we truly and deeply feel His love.

And that my dear friends, is a true Miracle.
